Is it enough merely to cite postcolonial theories when writing the history of the imperial ‘peripheries’? Do the subalterns “speak” Azeri or Georgian? The aim of this panel is to look at the history of the multinational and multiconfessional region of the Caucasus through the perspective of postcolonial theory and to analyze critically the international scholarship of the history of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia as well as Northern Caucasus.
PhD and post-doc candidates currently researching the history of the Caucasus in the 19th-20th centuries and/or postcolonial theory with particular accent on the region of the Caucasus/Central Asia are invited to submit proposals for this panel, which will take place at the Kocaeli University in the framework of the International Conference (26-27 April 2012).
Participants should fulfill the general requirements of the conference.
